Abstract

We demonstrate a systemic estimation for a binocular vision system to investigate the measurement accuracy improved by the virtual baseline method adopting double reflection. The DLT method and 3D calibration board are employed as a benchmark for different structure conditions. A jump of errors from an interval −1mm – 1mm to a larger interval −2mm – 2mm is observed in the typical experiments with the increasing measurement distance from 1200mm to 2200mm. However, a moderate fall of errors is identified with the ascending virtual baseline distance from 1200mm to 2200mm. The best relationship that the virtual baseline distance is 1 – 1.5 times of measurement distance is deduced for the double reflection system.
