Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Most meiotic chromosome errors occur during oogenesis and their frequency increases markedly with advancing age. Embryos derived from aneuploid oocytes may arrest during development, not implant, or spontaneously abort. For this reason some fertility clinics have advocated the use of preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) to identify and transfer euploid embryos. Routine PGS strategies involve blastomere examination via fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH). However, this approach only permits a limited cytogenetic analysis.
