Abstract

Draiswerke Inc. has developed the Gelimat ® compounding system, which uses a unique mixing and compounding technology based on thermokinetic principles. The high-speed process is designed to accommodate a number of process parameter changes during a brief 5–20 second cycle. Draiswerke says using thermokinetics makes the mixing and compounding process very efficient, reducing the compounding time to a matter of seconds. Compounded material is ejected automatically by an electronic temperature sensor through a discharge door, where it can be fed into a melt pump, a short barrel extruder, calendar, moulding system or other shaping device. The entire system is coupled to advanced process controls that allow the user to change any or all of the process parameters. The process control system also logs and graphically displays the process parameters as they occur. This is a short news story only.
