Abstract

Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease. Accumulation of misfolded alpha-synuclein (a-syn), called Lewy body, is a histological hallmark of PD. It is widely believed that aggregated a-syn plays a central role for disease onset and progression. Medications such as L-Dopa and dopamine agonists are effective for motor symptoms, but there is still no disease modifying drug for PD. Compound X was first identified as a novel substance which promotes proliferation of neural stem cells. So far, we have found that Compound X alleviates MPTP-induced neurotoxicity in mice.
