X-ray excited luminescence has been evaluated using Mn doped spinel crystals grown under 50 vol% O2-Ar atmosphere with various Mg compositions, x = MgO/Al2O3, from 0.2 to 1.5. Peak wavelength of X-ray luminescence increases from 515 to 525 nm with composition, x. Peak intensity of X-ray luminescence, which varies with composition, is stronger in crystals with Mg-poor compositions. Mn doped MgAl2O4 is suggested to be potentially useful detector of CuKα X-ray, because of its linear correlation between luminescence peak intensity and X-ray power.
