Abstract
The effect of γ-irradiation on the optical transmittance spectra of pseudobinary stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric cuts of ternary systems of chalcogenide glasses was studied. The application of chemical-bond approach is proposed to explain the features of compositional dependencies of radiation-induced effects in these materials. It is shown that free volume concept must be taken into consideration at the presence of different radiation-sensitive structural units. The creation processes of coordination defects connected with the formation of free volume and coupled with the capability of the constituent atoms to passivation are the main factors determining the magnitude of the radiation-induced effects in chalcogenide glasses.
