Abstract

Oxidation resistance determines the applicability in high temperature atmospheric environment of the novel heat-resisting cuboidal L12-γ' phase coherent precipitation strengthened Cu-Ni-Al alloys, and it needs to be systematically evaluated in a wide composition range. The results indicate that the oxidation behavior of the Cu1-x(Ni3/4Al1/4)x alloys exhibits a strong composition dependence, displaying excellent oxidation resistance at 850 °C when x is higher than 25 at%. From multi-aspects of atom-phase-alloy, combining the microstructural investigation and first principles calculation, the formation of Al2O3 protective layer and the synergistic effect of the basic components are crucial factors for the oxidation resistance of the alloys.
