Abstract

Pyrolysis-capillary gas chromatography (Py-CGC) was used to analyze the composition of multicomponent acrylic resins, such as ethyl acrylate-butyl methacrylate copolymers and ethyl acrylate-styrene-ethyl methacrylate terpolymers. The characteristic peaks of the pyrolysis products, up to the pentamers, are almost completely separated on the pyrogram. The relative molar amounts of the most characteristic products from the low-boiling point hydrocarbons to the pentamers were calculated from their peak intensities, and interpreted in terms of the compositions of the co- and terpolymers. The results determined by Py-CGC were in good agreement with the original compositions.
