Abstract

In Algeria, works on forensic entomology are in their first steps, That’s why we have chosen to deal with this subject, by choosing a dead rabbit to study its colonisation by necrophagous insects. This study was carried in an open area localized near the Biosystematic and Ecology of Arthropods laboratory, Chaabat Erssas Constantine, Algeria. Our daily sampling has allowed us to collect a total of 280 necrophagous insects divided into 11 different families (Calliphoridae, Anthomyiidae, Piophilidae, Muscidae, Dermestidae, Staphylinidae, Silphidae, Scarabidae, Cleridae, Trogidae and Histeridae). The analysis of the results revealed that Calliphoridae are the most numerous on the rabbit corpse with a relative frequency of 70%. This family is followed by the Trogidae with 12%. While Dermestidae comes after with 5%. Muscidae and Nitidulidae are represented with the same frequency of 4%. The others families are represented with a low abundances of 1 and 2%.
