Abstract

Analytical data are presented for eight gum specimens from Pereskia guamacho (Cactaceae). They are dextrorotatory acidic arabinoglactans and give very clear solutions of moderate viscosity. The gum contains galacturonic acid, glucuronic acid and its 4- O-methyl ether, galactose, arabinose, xylose and rhamnose. 13C-NMR spectrum of degraded gum A of P. guamacho shows interesting structural features of the gum studied.
