Abstract

The genus Perilla is important due to its medicinal properties and as wel l as for vital aroma compounds of commercial importance. The present study determined the components of essential oil of Per illa frutescens grown in nursery conditions in Uttarakhand Shiwaliks. The leaves of P. frutescens collected during October 2014 at full blooming stage were hydro-disti lled to havea yel low coloured oil wi th the yield of 0.38% (v/w). The obtained essential oil was analysed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry and identif ied 6 main components, amounting 99.97% of the oil. Among the detected compounds, the two major components were 2-Furyl -n-PentylKetone (67.98%) and 1-Methyl -2-Methylene-transdecalin (29.12%).
