Abstract

The composition of the essential oil isolated by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts of Origanum vulgare subsp. glandulosum (Desf.) growing wild in Algeria was determined by GC and 13C NMR. The oil was characterized by high thymol content (41–49.5%) and its antibacterial activity was tested against bacteria Gram (−) and Gram (+). The oil is very active against all bacteria tested except Pseudomonas which turned out to be very resistant.
