Abstract

We proposed a composite silica-polymer waveguide design for terahertz wave difference frequency generation from infrared pump sources. The composite waveguide comprises a central poled optical fiber and outer low loss polymer cladding. The simulation shows that, due to long interaction length by way of well-confined collinear propagation of optical pumps and THz wave without diffraction, the waveguide could serve as an efficient THz source. This waveguide provides a promising way to realize a reasonable, easy to use, robust THz source.
