Abstract

The effects of reduction in demagnetization field on stripe width, the stability of domain structure, and the magnetoresistive effect in the elements with Ni-Co films and Permalloy films of varying stripe widths were studied. We also investigated the read characteristics of each of the elements. Replacing the conventional structure with a composite structure reduced the demagnetizing field by half, and reduced hysteresis. Since the domain structure approached that of a single domain, it was clear that mutual magnetic effects occurred between the Permalloy film and the Ni-Co film.
