Abstract

At present there is a significant interest in composite generation and transmission system reliability evaluation for use in bulk power system planning. Methods and computer programs for composite system reliability evaluation have been reported in the industry, though their applications in electric utilities are still very limited. Some improvements in the methods and education in applying them are required for system planners to gain confidence in these methods. This paper concentrates on the purpose and philosophy of composite system reliability evaluation.
