Abstract

Clothoid (CL)-shaped composite dowels are becoming popular in steel-concrete composite bridge construction recently. In this paper, CL-shaped dowel's fatigue performance is evaluated. Considering the contact between concrete and steel connector, two stress patterns of the connectors under the bending-shear action and the pure shear loading are simulated, and the detailed crack propagation analysis of the beam is carried out by using ABAQUS sub-model. The stress intensity factor is obtained to describe the fatigue performance of the composite dowel.
