Abstract

Lettuce ( Lactuca sativa ) is a popular vegetable crop on the planet , especially among the hardwoods , as the most produced in Brazil , is considered one of the healthiest foods , great food and human health importance . The objective of this study was to evaluate the behavior of lettuce cultivars in western Rio Grande do Norte . The seedlings were grown in a greenhouse. Thirty -five days after transplantation , yield components and quality of lettuce cultivars were analyzed . The experimental design was in blocks, randomized , seven corresponding to lettuce cultivars treatments : American Winslow ; Wonder 4 Seasons Purple Butter ; Mimosa Red Salad Bowl ; Scarlat ; Wonder Summer Butter , Elba , and Grad Rapids TBR , in four replications . Data were subjected to analysis of variance and the means were compared by Tukey test at 5 % probability . It was concluded that the cultivars American Winslow and Elba showed maioes productivity indexes and the components of quality variation among cultivars was observed only in degree of hydration , soluble solids and pH .
