Abstract

Due to the complexities of pervasive computing, it poses many challenges for software middleware and component technologies. We believe that software dynamic adaptation enables a system to change its structure and behavior for flexibility at run-time in terms of the variant execution contexts. The focus of this paper regards safe and dynamic adaptation using component composition techniques in SCUDWare middleware for smart vehicle space. The contribution of our work is twofold. First, a computing model of safe and dynamic adaptation, highlighting the component run-time behaviors and interdependence relationships, is put forward to give the formal definitions. Second, a safe and dynamic component composition method is proposed in detail for dynamic adaptation. In addition, this method is validated by a series of experimental results.
