Abstract
For the sake of augmented high throughput demand of users, carrier aggregation is employed for escalating the bandwidth in LTE-Advanced. According to the latest LTE-Advanced release, maximum of five component carriers (CC) can be combined. Due to variable interference on CCs, proper CC selection plays a key role in the overall performance of the network. We propose particle swarm optimization, a metaheuristic approach for minimizing the overall interference in the network. The suggested CC selection method converges to a stable value within hundreds of iterations. The comparison is carried with traditional CC selection methods i.e., random and round-robin in terms of throughput and fairness. The results illustrate that the proposed CC selection method outperforms the other proposed ones.
