AbstractBackgroundThe use of intense pulsed light sources has been booming in the world of cosmetic dermatology. Despite advances in technology and benefits for a wide range of skin conditions, complications do occur.ObjectiveTo assess complications associated with intense pulsed light sources in cosmetic dermatology to provide clinicians with reference to achieve better patient outcomes.MethodsA literature review of complications associated with intense pulsed light sources.ResultsNotable complications include pigmentary changes, crusting, burns, zebra appearance, folliculitis, acne, leukotrichia, paradoxical hypertrichosis, scarring, infection, and ophthalmic injury.ConclusionClinicians using intense pulsed light sources should be aware of complications associated with their use to take precautions and implement preventative strategies to avoid adverse effects and long‐term consequences.
