Abstract

This article raises the question of accountability for human rights violations perpetrated by the United Nations. International institutions have undertaken new and greater operational responsibilities, and with them came the capacity to violate fundamental rights of the individuals under their power. The article identifies the international institutional operations that can pose a particular threat to human rights. The author argues that the effective protection of human rights demands that our analysis of power be updated, and that international organizations be held accountable for human rights violations.
