Abstract

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the leading cause of death amongst hospital-acquired infections and is also linked to an increased length of stay and cost of care. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement ventilator bundle is comprised of a series of interventions, which, when implemented together, have been shown to decrease the incidence of VAP. The aim of this study was to determine the compliance of the bundle and if <95% [1] devise strategies to improve compliance.

Introduction

The objective of our study was to implement a Post Arrest Consult Team (PACT) and improve the quality of care for admitted OHCA patients This retrospective audit evaluated adult patients who suffered in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) against the recent National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) report [1]. It looked at the recognition of the acutely unwell, the interventions made, the decisions taken from admission through to the post-arrest period and the outcomes following cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
