Abstract
Complexes of lanthanum(III), neodymium(III), samarium(III), gadolinium(III), dysprosium(III), erbium(III) and lutetium(III) with Schiff bases, prepared from o-aminophenol with 2-aldopyridine(HL) and 8-aldoquinoline (HL 1), have been synthesised and their physico-chemical properties investigated using elemental analyses, molar conductivities, visible spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility measurements, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction and thermal (TG, DTA) methods. The IR spectra show that the Schiff bases bind in a tridentate manner and the spectral and magnetic studies suggests the six-coordination of the complexes. It is found the complexes possess different crystal lattices.
