Abstract

The results of investigations of the complexation of N-vinylsuccinimide (VSI) in monomer–solvent and monomer–monomer systems and the effect of these processes on the kinetics of copolymerization of VSI with monometers of differing reactivity are summarized. Conditions for the synthesis of compositionally homogeneous copolymers were established. Taking into account the electronic structure of VSI and co-components, a mechanism of complexation in VSI–dimethylsulfoxide, VSI–acetic anhydride, and VSI–maleic anhydride systems is proposed. The electron density redistribution in the VSI molecule upon complexation has been quantitatively assessed.
