Abstract

Heart transplantation (HTx) has become a valuable therapy of end-stage heart failure and for some other specific indications [1]. Mostly, the native heart is replaced by the donor heart. Only in rare cases, a heterotopic HTx is performed where the donor heart is inserted auxiliary to the native heart which stays in situ, as a kind of biological biventricular assist device [2]. This kind of transplantation is mostly used if the pulmonary resistance of the recipient is too high and if there is no possibility to transplant heart and lungs.
