Abstract

The complex variable boundary element method is applied to the solution of torsion of hollow shafts. The method is based on the well known Cauchy integral formula of the theory of complex variable extended to the multiply connected regions. It is shown that the unknown constants arising from the multiplicity of the region need not to be determined for the solution of this class of problems. Numerical results are given for a square shaft with a square hole; a square shaft with a circular hole; an elliptic shaft with two elliptic holes. The results obtained are compared with those exist in the literature.
