Abstract

A method of dealing with many particle resonances, first suggested by Lovelace, is here applied to a system of three structureless α particles, interacting via s wave rank one separable potential. The parameters of the interaction were given the values which led Harrington to predict a 12.8 MeV binding energy for the 12C ground state. A 1 − resonance was found at E 0− iΛ 2 =2.071−0.05 i which is comparable with the experimental one at E 0− 1Λ 2 =2.225−0.015 i . The wave function of the resonance is defined and computed in configuration space.
