Abstract

The reactions of tert-butyl hydroperoxide and 1,1,3-trimethyl-3-(4-methylphenyl)butyl hydroperoxide with tetraalkylammonium bromides (Alk4NBr) in various solvents were studied by NMR spectroscopy. The formation of a complex between a hydroperoxide molecule and quaternary ammonium salt was experimentally proved. The equilibrium constants for hydroperoxide—Alk4NBr complex formation (K c) were determined. The influence of water on the parameters of the 1H NMR spectrum of tert-butyl hydroperoxide was studied.
