Abstract

Blends of poly(epichlorohydrin) (PECH) and poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) are shown to be completely miscible, based on the observation of a single glass transition temperature ( T g) by differential scanning calorimetry and lower critical solution temperature (LCST) behaviour. Miscibility of PECH with PVAc is presumably due to hydrogen-bonding interactions between the components. Since poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is known to form miscible binary blends with PECH and PVAC, the ternary system comprising PECH, PMMA and PVAc has been identified as one for which all three binary pairs are miscible. Examination of the ternary blends for T g and LCST behaviour revealed that the ternary system exhibits LCST behaviour and complete miscibility exists over the entire composition diagram for temperatures below the cloud point temperature.
