Abstract

The case report by Burnet and Blake (1989), “Sustained complete remission of Stage IV carcinoma of the cervix with cisplatinum, methotrexate and bleomycin chemotherapy”, was of great interest. We have found californium-252 (Cf-252) neutron brachytherapy (Cf-NT) to be highly effective for local control of bulky T4 squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsiloropharynx (Maruyama, 1984). Hence, we tested Cf-NT with adjuvant cisplatin-based chemotherapy for treatment of a case of advanced and metastatic oral cavity squamous cell cancer. Cisplatin plus 5-fluorouracil is an effective combination (Decker et al, 1983; Campbell et al, 1987; Toohill et al, 1987; Taylor et al, 1989), which we used.
