Abstract
Ceylon Medical Journal (CMJ) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal published quarterly by the Sri Lanka Medical Association in the last week of March, June, September and December each year. The mission of the CMJ is to promote the science and art of medicine and betterment of public health. The Journal publishes original papers and commentaries which have relevance to medicine and allied sciences. The CMJ is committed to maintaining and conforming to the editorial and ethical standards recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
Highlights
A 22-year-old Sri Lankan male presented to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, with a six-year history of painful large joints involving bilateral knees, ankles and wrists
Plain x rays of long bones revealed a periosteal reaction with subperiosteal bone formation in the diaphysis (Figure 3)
The constellation of pachydermia, clubbing, and periosteal reaction in the long bones suggests a clinical diagnosis of hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HOA) [1]
Summary
A 22-year-old Sri Lankan male presented to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, with a six-year history of painful large joints involving bilateral knees, ankles and wrists. Received 18 August 2020 and revised version 03 November 2020 accepted 02 December 2020. Plain x rays of long bones revealed a periosteal reaction with subperiosteal bone formation in the diaphysis (Figure 3).
