Abstract

Introduction. Significant loss of alveolar ridge in edentulism is clinically difficult situation that requires above-standard solutions. Overdenture supported by intraosseous implants can be distinguished among the methods of treatment. Aim of the study. To analyze the available literaturę on the possibility of using miniscrews to improve the overall stability of the prosthesis. Methods. The ProQuest database has been analyzed. 26 original articles were qualified for future research. Results and conclusions. Retention and stability can be largely improved by the use of miniscrews. A simple method of implantation can be used even in cases of significant loss of alveolar bone without augmentation procedures. The authors recommend the use of miniscrews in the elderly when extensive implant surgery cannot be performed. The studies showed improvements in stability, comfort, mastication and speech. An overdenture stabilized on the mini implants is auseful solution in clinically difficult situations.
