Abstract
Fat grafting stands in contradistinction to previous efforts at rejuvenation in that the face is augmented with tissue rather than subtracted by lifting, pulling, and excising. Fat transfer can be used with other facial cosmetic surgical procedures. The technique is described including donor site selection and harvesting, processing the fat, recipient site preparation, and injection of fat. Specific site injection process and postoperative care are discussed. Possible complications are described. Although fat transfer is an excellent method to restore facial contour, it is not ideal for addressing the perioral lines like the nasolabial and labiomandibular folds or the lips. Volume enhancement with faat should continue to become an increasingly important method for facial rejuvenation and to restore facial harmony.
