Abstract

Some of the short chain normal fatty acids are shown to be competitive inhibitors of the D-amino acid oxidase of rat kidney. In contrast to benzoate, which is a competitive inhibitor of this enzyme and of the ophio-L-amino acid oxidase of cobra venom, sodium pentanoate inhibits only the kidney enzyme.
