Abstract

The competitive catalytic hydrogenation of 4-octyne and 1,3-cyclooctadiene on Pt and Pd catalysts on active charcoal in hexane and methanol solutions, respectively, has been investigated. The selectivity of competitive hydrogenation defined by the ratio of reactivities of 4-octyne and 1,3-cyclooctadiene is higher on the platinum catalysts in both solvents, and higher in hexane than in methanol on both catalysts. The validity of Bader-Smith relation for the calculation of selectivity has been confirmed.
