Abstract

It is argued that the current Marxist response to transactional theory in economic anthropology is based on a false polemic. A demonstration that both exchange and production theory can be subsumed under a common set of methodological assumptions, and that they have discrete domains of applicability implies that they are complementary approaches on different ontological levels and not epistemological competitors.
