Abstract

Study Objectives: Successful resident training must include both the acquisition of required knowledge and the ability to use knowledge appropriately. Evaluation of competence must focus on “content” based skills, and also on effective decision making abilities. The SMS (Strategic Management Simulations) is a content-free internationally validated tool used to assess and train professionals. We hypothesized that we could use SMS to assess resident decision-making abilities and that simulation results would compare favorably to faculty evaluations of these residents.
