Abstract

The purpose of this article was to analyze the technological competences of teachers for the use of multimedia in Social Communication programs in Colombian universities. It was based on authors such as Alcala (2006), Nielsen (2003) and Ferre (2000), to measure the usability of multimedia, while the theorists Basabe and Quintero (2012) and Marcelo (2005) contributed to technological competences. As a spatial delimitation, the Autonomous University of the Caribbean was selected in Barranquilla, Colombia, in its Social Communication-Journalism and Radio and Television programs. The study was conducted between June 2016 and June 2017, with a sample of 32 teachers from the UAC, in full time status, research professor and professor. According to the results obtained, it was determined that, in the teachers of the Autonomous University of the Caribbean there is a high generation of knowledge and development of technological competences imparted to the students, under a process aimed at improving the educational quality; however, greater investment effort in the multimedia platform of the Autonomous University of the Caribbean is needed in order to achieve innovative content.
