Abstract

Student career consulting is increasingly diverse and demanding. Academic advisors play an important role in the effectiveness of consultancy. This paper aims to examine the competences that academic advisors need to act as a bridge between students and employers. Based on the conceptual framework of “bridge role” and a practical basis at the University of Technical Pedagogy, this study applies analytical and synthetic methods to determine the competences that academic advisors need to acquire. Those include vocational competence; natural conversational capacity; ability of recruitment needs assessment; cooperation capacity; creativity capacity; and advisory and forecasting capacity.
