Abstract

The concluding part of this four-part series examines midwives' views of their competence and confidence and surmises that for many, caring for women during birth in hospital settings engenders fear and anxiety and pressure to view all births as abnormal. The discussion will outline my interpretation of the study's findings taking into account the notion of expertise combined with recommendations for a way forward.
