Abstract

Abstract This paper discusses some of the central issues relating to the loss which can be compensated in contract. The core question is: in making an award of damages in contract, what are we compensating for? In recent years the courts (and, in particular, the House of Lords) have re-thought some aspects of this question, and have opened some new paths of enquiry in the assessment of compensatory damages.
