Abstract

Rate limit of system actuators is one of the major restrictions in the physical world. However, the actuator rate limit has always been neglected in classical and modern control design. The rate limiter generates amplitude attenuation and phase delay, which will deteriorate control performance and may even lead to system instability. In this study, the Bode step control method was applied to first-order plus time-delay (FOPTD) systems to mitigate the magnitude reduction and phase caused by the rate limiter. An illustrative example was given to show the effectiveness of the Bode step compensation method.
