Abstract

For application of amorphous ferrimagnetic rare earth (RE) transition metal (TM) thin films as magneto-optic storage materials, the homogeneity of films is an important parameter. In vapour-deposited GdFe-films good homogeneity was achieved by rotating the substrates up to 1000 rpm during deposition. In homogeneous films compensation point switching was demonstrated. Writing-, erasure- and reading processes were investigated analysing the magneto-optical Kerr signal.
