Abstract

Use of digital filters to improve the visual quality of SPECT images is a well-established technique. The goal of the filtering is to compensate for loss of detail in an image while reducing noise and improving of image quality. In this paper we studied the results of SPECT one and two line sources (contained with Tc-99 m) images obtained by SPECT equipped with unsuitable collimators (Low Energy General Purpose (LEGP) collimator), under implementation of various filters, to show effect of software filters on the image quality in this situation and capability of mathematical tools to compensate for the hardware flaw. With this result, the best filters with specific parameter for LSF and 2-line sources have been selected and the results have been interpreted. Key words: SPECT, filters, LEGP collimator.
