Abstract

Topical tretinoin is a popular treatment for acne vulgaris. In this study, the compatibility of two test skincare regimens with an encapsulated topical tretinoin (0.1%) was evaluated on first time tretinoin users with mild to moderate facial acne. The two test skincare regimens comprise an SPF 30 facial moisturizer containing UVA/UVB sunscreens coupled with an over-the-counter acne cleanser containing salicylic acid or a mild cosmetic cleanser. The results were compared to that of a control regimen in which the subjects used their own skincare products. Excellent skin compatibility was observed with the two test regimens, which showed directionally less increase of erythema and tightness as well as less transient increase of comedones. The study results demonstrate the compatibility of the two test skincare regimens for concomitant use with the encapsulated tretinoin (0.1%) for topical treatment of acne vulgaris.
