Abstract

The x-ray K and L 2,3 absorption and emission edges of A l have been analyzed incorporating one-electron effects and the many-body theory of Mahan and Nozières and De Dominicis (MND). It is shown that the emission edge data and the XPS line shape are described by a common set of Friedel phase shifts. Moreover, assuming unaltered one-electron effects in the presence of a core hole compatibility with the absorption edge data is also found.
