Abstract

Distinguishing between restitution, chaos and quest narratives (Frank, 1995), this paper analyses which narratives prevail in 7 blogs written by women with breast cancer. The most present narrative is the restitution, in which patients turn to medicine with the aim of recovering their previous status. There are also examples of the quest narrative, when illness is seen as a challenge and visibility of the wounded body is claimed. The absence of chaos narrative confirms the cultural difficulty to acknowledge the negative aspects of illness.
