Abstract

We compared the toxic response of chlorophenols from 10 different test systems. These systems used various experimental protocols including phylogenetically diverse test species. The best statistical model for explaining variation in toxic response (log TR) with changes in hydrophobicity (log K ow) was a traditional analysis of covariance model. This model consists of a set of parallel lines corresponding to the different test systems. The y-intercepts for these lines fell into four clearly defined subgroups. In general, the toxic response of a given chlorophenol in one system could be used to predict its toxic response in other systems.
