Abstract

ABSTRACT Six service companies demonstrated commercial and prototype Measurement While Drilling (MWD) formation evaluation tools in two research wells at a borehole test facility in northern Oklahoma during the summer of 1990 as part of a joint industry project. This paper compares both wireline and MWD resistivity, neutron porosity, bulk density, photoelectric and caliper data, as well as MWD, wireline, and core spectral gamma data. The comparisons are made between tools run through the same geological formations and under the same borehole conditions. The data in this report show that MWD tools can provide good quality data suitable for geological and reservoir characterization. The data also demonstrate some of the differences between various designs of MWD sensors and wireline devices.
