Abstract

A non-linear dynamic model with regard to the dynamic response of a spur gear pair with tooth profile deviation is developed. Tooth profile deviation is modelled based on the measured results which are also related to the gear accuracy grades. The developed model can be used to evaluate the dynamic response of a spur gear pair in design stage. In this paper, the transmission error is obtained through geometrical method based on the measured tooth profile deviation is closer to reality. It is more practical than previous works in which the approximated form is the limited terms of Fourier series. The transmission error as the internal excitation is introduced into a simple mass lump dynamic model. The effects of the presented excitation model on the dynamic response of a spur gear pair are investigated and compared with the results of classical dynamic model (with approximate excitation form). It is shown that high harmonic components of the transmission error at low speeds have enormous influence on the dynamic response of a spur gear pair. Besides, the gear system with measured errors on the dynamic response has many obvious sub-harmonic peaks and its dynamic factor also has many obvious peaks at low speeds.
